What is Tai Chi Chuan?

Originally – Tai Chi was developed like a soft Martial Art where its students could defend themselves using the opponent power...Later, like other Martial arts in China it was added like part of traditional Chinese medicine...Today in every part of the world people refer on that using only the words Tai Chi and it is recognized by many health, wellness and fitness professionals as a soft, non-impact and very effective physical activity with great benefits in several areas:

  • Stimulate cardiovascular system and helps to control/regulate blood pressure
  • Increase strength in arms and legs
  • Improve/exercise balance and flexibility
  • Improve/exercise body-mind connection, and self-control
  • Improve/exercise concentration and relaxation (meditation in movement)
  • Can be trained for self-defense as well (It is an ancient Martial Art and some Teachers still are attached to it in this form of training)

Tai Chi classes involve:

  • Breathing exercises
  • Stretching and flexibility exercises
  • Isometric and functional strength exercises
  • Some partner exercises (hands press, pull and push, self-defense techniques)
  • Tai Chi Routines

We are about to host Traditional Tai Chi classes, here at 99 Sudbury, scheduled twice a week, in the mornings and I hope this article give a better idea about this art and if anyone is interested in learning more about Tai Chi or information about the new classes, feel free to talk with me, Shifu Tony Bahia (aka Tony the Personal Trainer) at the gym.
